Panchkula is a planned city in Panchkula district, Haryana, India. It is a satellite city of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. There are five towns in the district named Panchkula, Barwala, Pinjore, Kalka and Raipur Rani. The only Hill Station in Haryana called Morni is also in this District. Panchkula district has a sub tropical continental monsoon climate where we find seasonal rhythm, hot summer, cool winter, unreliable rainfall and great variation in temperature. The important rivers/streams of the district are Ghaggar, Sirsa Nadi, Kaushalya etc.

The new Urban Estate of Panchkula is broadly enclosed by Ambala Kalka national highway, Ambala-Kalka railway line and Chandigarh-Panchkula road. It is developed on outskirts of Chandigarh, amongst the picturesque background of the Shivalik hills and the Ghaggar River. The area will have a golf course, a deer park, zoological garden, an exhibition and a children park etc.

Nawab Fadai Khan, a great architect and foster brother of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb is said to have designed the idyllic gardens. He planned the gardens on the classical Charbagh pattern, giving the area a central water way. Both sides of this waterway were covered with patches of green bordered with flowers and shaded by trees. After Fadai Khan’s departure and the end of Mughal Rule, these gardens he had so lovingly designed were overtaken by the wilderness. His highness Maharaja Yadvindra Singh of Patiala is said to have restored Pinjore Garden to its former glory.

CHATTBIR ZOO is a famous zoological park located at a distance. Royal Bengal tiger is the pride of Chattbir zoo and if you are fortunate enough, you might be able to catch its glimpse. Visitors are taken on the adventurous trips to the tiger reserves, where animals roam about freely. You can also find distinctive species of birds over here. The zoo is open on all days except for Monday.
